The Things We Don't Talk About

KIDS HAVE QUESTIONS. Do you have the answers?

Through Brescia's story of her experiences, she hopes to empower individuals with more insight to be able to have proper conversations with their children and those vulnerable to addiction about the dangers of drugs and alcohol use, recovery drugs and alcohol and preparing them to make safer and healthier choices.

The three most dangerous words a parent can say ...

... NOT MY CHILD.

It's a phrase Brescia has heard too often. Of course, the hope is that no child ever goes down the path of drug experimentation or suicide, but the reality is very different from our hopes.

Children are faced with all kinds of challenges and pressures on their journey, especially during their transition from primary school to high school. The reality is that so many of us accept the premise that our children are fully prepared for the unfortunate day they are introduced to something harmful.

When this day comes, it is Brescia's hope that her story has made enough of an impact to help children avoid walking down a path that all too often ends in tragedy.

We need to talk to our children.

Brescia offers more insight to parents and children about bullying and the scars it leaves that affect quality of life. Brescia addresses the reality of mental health and suicide and encourages individuals to make real efforts to care for themselves and their loved ones. Dealing with alcoholism and overcoming alcohol addiction is also a topic Brescia elaborates on.

The Questions Still Being Asked

These are some of the questions Brescia address in her talks.

Almost 20% of South Africans – 1 out of every 5 adults – abuse mind-altering substances, with alcohol, pain-killers (codeine) and dagga the worst offenders, and rising figures of illicit drug use suggest the country is losing the war on drugs.
